These are separate steps.

The upgrade procedures are covered in:

• Section 3.1 – Installing or Updating the Software

• Section 3.1 – Updating the Firmware

• Section 3.1 – Activating the Software (if required after upgrade)

STEP 1 — Update Newton Software on the PC

Required Files:

• Newton Software_vX.X (RT2020 version installer)

• Updated Newton mc.zip configuration file

Procedure:

1. Download any important data from the controller before starting.

2. Close Newton completely.

3. Open the Newton Software_vX.X folder.

4. Double-click Setup.exe.

5. Follow the installation prompts.

6. When prompted for configuration:

   • Click the folder icon.

   • Select the new Newton mc.zip file.

   • Do NOT unzip the file.

7. Restart the PC when installation completes.

Important Notes:

• This may reset:

  • Jog rates

  • Sensor calibrations

  • Some machine settings

• Verify general settings after upgrade.

• Internal controller memory may be reset.

STEP 2 — Update Controller Firmware to RT2020

Once software is updated:

1. Connect Ethernet cable.

2. Power on the controller.

3. Wait at least 60 seconds for full boot.

4. Launch Newton software.

5. Log in as Test Engineer. (pass: 156)

6. Before going Online, click Settings.

7. Select the controller from the dropdown.

8. Click Update Firmware.

9. Enter:

   • Username: admin

   • Password: admin

10. Click OK and allow the update to complete.

⚠ This takes several minutes.

After Firmware Update

• Click OK to exit Settings.

• Restart Newton software.

• If a “Something went wrong…” message appears:

  • Restart the controller.

  • Restart Newton.

  • Retry connection.

If firmware fails due to memory:

• Go to Report → Download screen.

• Delete old data from the controller.

• Retry firmware update.

STEP 3 — Verify Upgrade

After restart:

1. Open Settings.

2. Confirm:

   • Firmware version shows RT2020

   • Controller is detected

3. Go Online and verify live readouts update properly.

Important Upgrade Warnings

Before upgrading:

• Download all data from controller.

• Firmware update resets internal memory.

• Some older tests may need to be recreated if incompatible.

• Check sensor calibration values after update.
