Below are list of troubleshooting steps to resolve connection issues with Newton.

1.) Make sure the Newton controller is plugged into the wall, connected directly to the pc via ethernet cable (not through USB to ethernet adapter) and turned on.

Note: When the Newton controller is initially turned on you should wait at least 60 seconds prior to opening up the software.

2.) Before going to the Online screen, click on the 'Settings' icon in the upper right corner of the software screen (icon is a cogwheel).  A new window will appear and at the top there will be a drop down menu which may say 'Select a Device' or 'Refreshing'.  If it says 'select a device' click on the drop down and there will be a selection for Newton with the serial number of the system.  If not, select refreshing.  Once it's done refreshing you should see a Newton device to select.  If not, repeat step one again.  Once connected it will populate the IP address settings and firmware version.  Click ok to exit the window.

3.) Proceed to the online screen, if the connection dot in the upper right hand corner takes 60 seconds to turn green to connect, this means the firewall or antivirus software is preventing communication and will not allow the machine to run properly.  Do not attempt to move the machine or run a test in this state.

Section 3 in the user manual goes through what you'll need to do to resolve things.  Your IT department will likely need to assist in allowing the software through antivirus and firewall settings.

Attached is an IT supplement document.  You can access the user manual from the Newton software by clicking on the 'help' icon in the upper right corner.  Icon is a'?'.  Manual can also be found in the 'settings' folder under the 'Newton' folder in the C:/programs folder.
